Journal of Forensic and Allied Sciences (JFAS)

The Journal of Forensic and Allied Sciences (JFAS) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publishing ethics and scholarly rectitude. The process of academic publishing demands transparency, accountability, and rigor from all participants—authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. JFAS adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and promotes ethical conduct throughout the publication lifecycle.

Our policies below outline the responsibilities and expectations for all stakeholders involved in the publishing process.

1. Ethical Responsibilities of Editors

Editors at JFAS play a crucial role in ensuring the academic integrity of all published content.

  • Editorial Independence: Editorial decisions are made based on scholarly merit, free from influence of personal, political, or financial interests.

  • Transparency: Editors must ensure transparency in the review and publication process and are responsible for publishing corrections, retractions, or clarifications when required.

  • Impartial Evaluation: Manuscripts are reviewed solely on their scientific content, originality, and relevance—without discrimination based on gender, race, ethnicity, institutional affiliation, or geographic location.

  • Confidentiality: Editors must maintain confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and not disclose content or authorship to anyone outside of the editorial process.

  • Ethical Oversight: In cases of suspected misconduct, editors must initiate and support an impartial investigation in collaboration with authors, institutions, and, where appropriate, external bodies.

2. Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

Peer reviewers are essential to maintaining the scholarly quality and integrity of JFAS.

  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and must not share or discuss them with third parties.

  • Objective Review: Reviews should be constructive, evidence-based, and free of personal bias. Reviewers must assess the originality, clarity, and scientific accuracy of the work.

  • Timeliness: Reviewers are expected to submit their evaluations promptly. Delays should be communicated to the editorial office in advance.

  • Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must recuse themselves from reviewing manuscripts where a conflict of interest exists, whether personal, financial, academic, or professional.

  • Ethical Vigilance: If reviewers suspect misconduct—such as plagiarism, data fabrication, or ethical concerns in the treatment of human or animal subjects—they must notify the editorial team immediately.

3. Ethical Obligations of Authors

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work meets ethical and professional standards.

  • Originality: All manuscripts must represent original work and must not be under review or published elsewhere. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable.

  • Research Integrity: Data must be accurate, authentic, and collected in accordance with applicable research and ethical standards. Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data will result in serious consequences, including retraction.

  • Acknowledgment of Sources: All references, data, images, or other content taken from third-party sources must be appropriately cited. Permissions must be obtained where required.

  • Authorship Criteria: Only individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research should be listed as authors. Others may be acknowledged in a dedicated section.

  • Disclosure of Conflicts: Any potential conflicts of interest—financial, institutional, or personal—must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript.

  • Compliance with Ethical Standards: Studies involving human participants or animals must comply with institutional and national ethical guidelines, and the relevant approvals must be documented.

4. Publisher’s Ethical Commitments

The publisher of JFAS is committed to maintaining scholarly transparency, integrity, and accountability.

  • Editorial Autonomy: JFAS supports independent editorial decision-making and fosters an environment free from commercial or political influence.

  • Protection of Research Integrity: The publisher ensures that all submitted and published content complies with recognized ethical standards, including handling of misconduct and corrections.

  • Transparency in Publication: The publisher works in coordination with authors and editors to ensure transparency in funding disclosures, conflict of interest declarations, and data availability statements.

  • Corrections and Retractions: The publisher ensures that corrections, retractions, or updates are handled promptly and in accordance with COPE guidelines.

5. Core Areas of Ethical Compliance

JFAS enforces high ethical standards across the following domains:

  • Publication Ethics: All parties must adhere to COPE’s Core Practices for ethical publishing.

  • Funding Transparency: Authors must disclose all sources of research funding and grant support.

  • Conflict of Interest: Editors, authors, and reviewers must disclose any affiliations or relationships that could affect objectivity.

  • Confidentiality: Information obtained through the peer review and editorial process must not be used for personal gain or disclosed without consent.

  • Correction and Retraction Procedures: Any errors, ethical violations, or misconduct will be addressed through formal processes including correction notices, expression of concern, or retraction.

  • Authorship and Contributions: Clear policies on authorship contribution, acknowledgments, and accountability are enforced.

  • Data Availability and Reproducibility: Authors must be prepared to provide raw data for editorial review and comply with reproducibility standards when required.

  • Timely Dissemination: The publisher is responsible for the timely publication and archiving of articles in accordance with international standards.
