Journal of Forensic and Allied Sciences (JFAS)
At the Journal of Forensic and Allied Sciences (JFAS), we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity in academic publishing. To protect the reliability of the scholarly record, we enforce strict policies regarding falsification, plagiarism, duplicate submissions, and citation manipulation. These policies apply across all manuscript types, including research articles, reviews, case studies, letters, and other formats.
Authors found to have fabricated, falsified, or misrepresented any data, image, figure, or statement within their manuscript will face immediate editorial action. Such misconduct may result in:
Formal retraction of the article.
Public notification of the violation.
Reporting to the authors’ institutions or funding bodies.
A permanent ban on future submissions to JFAS.
These actions will be taken in accordance with the COPE Flowcharts and Guidelines on Fabricated Data.
JFAS publishes formal correction notices when errors or omissions significantly affect the clarity, interpretation, or integrity of the article. Corrections may include, but are not limited to:
Mislabeled tables or figures.
Missing acknowledgments or funding disclosures.
Undisclosed competing interests.
Corrections are categorized as either:
Major Errors: These alter the scientific interpretation or validity of the work. A separate correction notice will be published and linked to the corrected article. A footnote will also be added to the article with a hyperlink to the notice.
Minor Errors: These do not affect the article’s interpretation. A footnote will be added to the article to inform readers of the amendment; no separate notice will be published.
Articles may be retracted in cases of serious ethical violations, including:
Data fabrication or falsification.
Plagiarism or redundant publication.
Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
Authorship manipulation.
All retractions are handled in line with COPE’s retraction guidelines. Retracted articles remain on the journal website with a clear watermark and accompanying retraction notice explaining the reason.
Manuscripts accepted and published online ahead of formal issue assignment (“Articles in Press”) may be withdrawn if they are found to violate ethical publishing policies. Grounds for withdrawal include:
Dual submission.
False authorship claims.
Plagiarized or manipulated data.
Breach of confidentiality.
Withdrawn articles will be replaced with a formal notice, and all files will be removed from the journal archive.
JFAS only accepts original research that has not been published elsewhere, in print or electronic format.
Manuscripts under review at JFAS must not be simultaneously submitted to another journal. Authors who violate this rule may face:
Immediate rejection of the manuscript.
Notification to their institution.
A ban on future submissions.
Authors must clearly identify any prior or concurrent submissions or publications related to the current manuscript, including:
Preprints or theses.
Conference proceedings.
Related studies under review elsewhere.
Reuse of any previously published material (text, figures, tables, data) must be explicitly acknowledged. If reused text exceeds common methodological descriptions, or if figures are reused, authors must obtain permission from the copyright holder and disclose this in the manuscript.
For extended versions of conference papers, the new submission must include substantial unpublished content, cite the original, and include a clear statement in the cover letter explaining the revision.
Unethical citation practices are strictly prohibited. This includes:
Self-citation to inflate individual metrics.
Coercive citation requests from editors or reviewers.
Inclusion of irrelevant references to boost citation counts for specific journals or individuals.
Authors, reviewers, and editors must avoid all forms of citation manipulation. Any such actions will be subject to editorial investigation and may result in manuscript rejection, retraction, or sanctions against involved parties.
The editorial team of JFAS is trained to detect and investigate ethical violations. All concerns regarding misconduct are handled confidentially and with due diligence. When necessary, we consult external advisors, follow COPE procedures, and notify authors’ affiliated institutions.
Authors, reviewers, and editors are encouraged to report any concerns regarding misconduct or breaches of ethical policy to:
